As a parent of two adult children in college. It would never occur to me to ask one of my siblings to fill the stockings!

But just to tell you what I put in my kids stockings are typically every day things cause I'm not really into candy. Something like lip balm, for my daughter, facemasks, socks, and an envelope with money.

Candy.
I like the idea of sharpies! That’s kind of funny and could become a cute tradition.
Silicone cable ties.

If you live in DC, go to the chocolate store on Conn Ave by Farragut north for cute wrapped chocolates by the pound.

This stood out to me too and I have kids in that age group. I would never ask someone other than DH and I to fill stockings. We know our kids best and which incidentals and snacks and even gift cards they like.

The aunt could end up spending significantly more than she would have on regular gifts by trying to make sure the stocking isn’t junky.

Yes- weird and kind of rude. Let the poor aunt buy what she wants.

You both sound so fun to have around 🙄

I agree a gift card for local coffee dhop or burrito place near their school is great.

Really good lip balm.

Earrings for either with pierced ears. I got my college kid some fun ones that were not expensive (holiday themed and themed to her major)

If the stockings are big a paperback book will fit.

Power banks are great. The charger pad where you can charge your phone, earbuds and an Apple Watch also great.

Socks can be great. Bombas or darn tough (expensive but high quality) are very popular with my 20 something nieces and nephews. Funky socks are still sort of in, depending on the persons style, but I feel like you need to know them better to skirt the line between fun and tacky.

Nicer chocolates. One of my kids also likes high end jerky whereas another likes licorice. Agree World market is great. They have stuff like assorted world themed popcorn seasoning or hot sauces or little bottles of coffee flavoring syrup, all of which would I think work well.

Also agree on small apartment kitchen stuff. I put a microplane grater in my kids stocking and she loved that. Perfect for Parmesan on pasta! Those silicone scrapers for baking are great and so useful in many sizes plus easy to pack and move. Sikpats are also great for baking or even making frozen pizza etc. kids are environmental now so things like stasher silicone storage bags are also great (Costco has sets of a cheaper version).

Fun canvas or nylon totes for the library or farmers market.

An umbrella.

Please tell your scoffing teen that these are basic AF so please chill out.

A college senior is 21 or 22, not a teen!

Not a big difference between a 19 and 21/22 year old. And who the heck asks for “funky socks?”

+1 scoffing teen (or acting like a teen) just wants gift cards/money? That's the parent's domain. This is the aunt bringing stuffed stockings (or she was assigned to bring stuffed stockings). Eff that. They get candy, toothbrushes, lip balm, etc. You don't assign an aunt to bring stuffed stockings and then expect $250 of gift cards.
