Tooth fairy stopped when the last baby tooth came out...11? We still do Santa at 12 but it's with a wink and a nod.

I think it’s mean to let a kid go to middle school still believing in Santa. Other kids are not kind about this stuff, so I think it’s on the parents to tell them ahead of time. Don’t set your kid up to be bullied.

That said, every year my kids still play along and ask for gifts from Santa and sometimes even give little things from Santa. I’m in my 40’s and whenever my parents want to be especially generous, they still give me things from Santa.

Your kid almost certainly knows they're not real but the fantasy is still fun. The tooth fairy visits my house for every tooth lost. Santa gives one present every Christmas and will until DD turns 18 at least. Pretending is fun.

Do it for as long as possible.

I was one of those kids who believed in Santa/Tooth fairy until 11/12.

My 10 & 12 dds don’t really believe in Santa anymore, but they tend to have what I call “willful belief” every December. I have no problem with that. I’ve never lied to them and will answer a direct question. I always play up the joy and magic that exists at Christmas time and invite them to help spread it now that they are older. But every December 24th we pull up the old Santa tracker and watch “Santa” deliver presents across the globe!

There's multiple questions here.
I think when they ask directly you should be honest
However that doesn't mean that the fun has to end.

Gifts and money are fun .

And the older ones can help make the magic for the younger ones

Definitely clue him in before middle school it might be hard but it will be worse if he's teased at school.
