I don’t think any 13 year old can feasibly learn how to do this. Think about how many adults are fully addicted.

Stick with your limits at least.

And in larger schools, it’s normal for 13 yo to have TikTok and would not be judged like she is being at school and here. It’s how she uses it, not that she has it.

I think it's normal to outgrow your friends. I sounds like she wasn't really interested in those things and now has come out of her shell. I think she will need to make new friends.

+1 to this. Australia followed the science and banned all social media accounts until 16.

It's addictive. There is no healthy way for a teen to use it. Even my 12 year old gets this - we actually had a conversation about algorithms and tracking at dinner today. I hope you're doing the same with your child.

It honestly doesn't even sounds like she's actually changing interests because she actually wants to. To me, it sounds like her interests are changing so she can look cool to appeal to other kids, a form of peer pressure.

It sounds like she’s outgrowing the “quirky” group. That’s totally fine, kids do change at this age. How large is the school and does it attract a “quirky” demographic? She may be feeling a little stifled by the other kids right now. Feeling pressured to conform. even though the group may be non-conformist in a mainstream sense, there are still “norms” that your daughter is going against by being into typical teen stuff like sports and school dances.

Struggling with our 13 yo. Very materialistic and a horrible attitude. Shut down the cell phone for a while. It's rough time right now

Sounds normal. My DDs interests changed around that time and she started getting into clothes and skin care etc. Her friend group started to change based on an evolution of interests. She also goes to a small school and the dynamics can be hard. Her friends may evolve over the next year or she may have to look for friends outside of school.

It's too late now, but you should not have allowed TikTok. My 13 year old certainly is aware of TikTok and has watched it with friends, but she doesn't have a phone and doesn't have TikTok on our shared iPad.
