Look, you had always been doing the lights, so he didn’t know. It’s likely the decorations are not as important to him, and perhaps he wouldn’t even bother if left to his own devices. That’s okay - not everyone cares about lights and decorations.

It doesn’t sound like he said no to you - he just asked where the outlet was. Yeah, not a great look but I wouldn’t say “awful.” I imagine this is the straw that broke the camel’s back.
