Is it an activity that has to be done in affiliation with the college? Maybe there are other opportunities in the community to engage in that activity? I wouldn’t limit school choice based on a hobby.

I posted above about athletic recruiting, and playing on a varsity team meant D3 schools only for my high stats DS (and likely many others). Not everyone has an "Ivy or bust" mentality.

It’s great your kid has an activity he loves but I would encourage him to be open to new interests as well, because he never knows what he could find in college. And people’s interests can change over time as they grow. That being said, I believe that it’s important to have something that keeps your kid engaged and involved on campus- whether it’s social, athletic, cultural, etc.
