OP, how much attention do you need? She was giving you a polite "out" for not attending the get together. She was being very gracious. Even though her feelings would have been hurt, probably a little, if you didn't attend. And a lot if you just didn't bother to rsvp at all.

I feel as though OP wants grace for her failure to notice and respond to the invite, but doesn't extend the same grace to her friend. It's a busy time of the year, people mean to reply and then they get busy. Reach out again in the New Year.
