I live in a neighborhood with a criminal neighbor who stole money from a charter school that served kids with disabilities. He barely got a slap on the wrist. He’s a lousy human being and seems very self centered. I say hello if he does but nothing more. I want nothing to do with him and his vile wife.

Who uses the term crook anymore?

No, way not crap like that.

What I hate the most here is people trying to make things that are not normal normal. Most people don't defraud banks-this is not normal.

This. I swear if Hitler came back to life and moved to the suburbs, most people would completely ignore what a monster he was and they would go after anyone who took a stand against him.

I would continue with the relationship as is- friendly acquaintances.

Of course not! He’s paid his debt. It should be of no interest to OP

Do you like the cat? He may need for you to adopt him for a few months.

OP. It did make the national news but he was one of several people that went to jail for it.

Not really. He got COVID compassionate released because of the extraordinary circumstances of the pandemic, or at least that's what OP is making it sound like. Means he didn't serve his full sentence.

Regardless, I wouldn't confront the neighbor.

The Covid compassion doesn't matter, because justice is never equally served - some people get years in jail, some get a few months. What matters is that he was found guilty and saw the inside of a cell. His past will follow him wherever he goes.

I would stay polite and neighborly, but not trust him with my money.
