We were given the heads up by our counselor about an ED result (negative one) that has yet to come out. We are at a private school. While it's bad news, we really appreciate the earlier notice to process.

Signed, a former HS teacher who was close with college counseling. I usually found out a day or 2 before.

Non DMV private here.

Yes they do but only for certain top colleges. Usually it’s a college where our HS is a true feeder (sending 5 or so kids/year). Some are T10, but many in that T11-25 range.

How do I know?
My oldest a few years ago didn’t get in ED (double legacy and our HS is a feeder) and they prepared us. Ended up at Ivy.

They prepared you as in they directly said the school
Told us you were rejected?

That must be hard. Glad that counselor prepared you.

Imagine having to find out about a rejection at the same time as the masses. Oh the shame!

You know nowadays 40% are getting in ED/EA right? The masses? Not really.

It happened in our private. Our counselor had a solid relationship with GA Tech regional rep and she topped him off that our son had been accepted there for aerospace engineering and she wanted to come by the school to surprise him with the acceptance. the private counselor recorded the surprise. It was very sweet .

Yes, this is almost entirely gone. There may be a few holdouts where there is a long relationship with a college counselor. But it's rare.

+1. Replaced by a newfangled invention called the Internet. It boggles the mind of how many people are convinced their private school counselor is important enough to warrant a phone call informing them of a student’s admittance.

Which schools?

Our DC's preschool director knew the private K-8s that our DC was admitted to and which our preschool had a relationship with. Our DC's K-8 HS counselor knew in advance the private HS's DC got into. But these are all in the same town. For college, I'd only expect it for the 3-5 colleges our private HS feeds into but not for the majority of colleges.

How long ago was this? Years? Decades?

2 years ago. To be fair, I worked at a private with a class of maybe 70-80 kids. Lots of ED & lots of parent involvement. It was best for all parties involved if CC knew ahead of time.

Why?

Second that. Why, pray, is it so important for private school kids?
