Why would you recommend a school in the midst of a financial crisis?
They are finding their footing and having a great year. No harm considering the school, especially if OP is looking for an easier admit.

As PP suggested, one good strategy is to apply to the few schools that start in 6th grade. Everyone will be new – and the school won't be dealing with, say, needing to adjust the gender balance or learning support needs of an existing class. Burke and Field are your secular, co-ed schools that start in 6th and are in DC, plus St. Anselm's and Holy Child for single-sex and religious. None of these is super large, so admissions competitiveness for 6th will vary year to year based on sibling apps, children of alums, etc. If you get into more than one, definitely visit, since the vibes and locations are pretty different.
