The initial bloodwork didn’t tip them off. I had CT scans and an ultrasound. They could see spots in my gallbladder, colon, and omentum.

This is OP. Unfortunately, I will not be able to answer the question that prompted this thread for anyone else. I tested negative for celiac, H. Pylori, and SIBO. My bloodwork was normal. My PCP referred me to a gastroenterologist. The gastroenterologist’s office told me to go straight to the ER.

I saw Dr. Megan Murphy, a Johns Hopkins community Physician GI doc at Sibley. She did the endoscopy and colonoscopy as well as the SIBO test and everything was covered by insurance.. I thought she was very good. However, when the endoscopy showed major inflammation but the SIBO breath test came back borderline, she would only do one round of Rifaximin despite my severe symptoms and my being seriously immune compromised. I think she would be excellent for a more straightforward case, but wasn’t able to help me further. I then went to an integrative medicine physician that I trusted. She follows the Cedars Sinai protocol and did the IBS Smart blood test to confirm the SIBO diagnosis. She prescribed additional rounds of medication until I was stable and helped me find a few foods I could tolerate during the healing process. Doesn’t sound like you want to an integrative physician again though. She is private pay, but I got 80% reimbursement due to the insurance I had then. All of my GI symptoms are resolved for which I am so grateful. In case you are interested, her name is Dr. Poorvi Shah, DO and her office is in Falls Church. She is not a GI specialist, but is very knowledgeable about GI issues and a very good diagnostician. Good luck.

I’m the OP of this thread. I’m a patient at Rockville Internal Medical Group and my primary doctor there ordered the SIBO test through their in-house gastroenterology practice, but I also noticed when I was at Lab Corp for bloodwork that they conduct the breath test if a doctor orders it, and they take insurance.

Question for people on this thread whose doctors have treated sibo. Can you share the doctors names or practices? I’ve been to a few GI docs in the DC area and they don’t believe in SIBO. I’ve been to a functional med doctor (two, actually) and it cost a lot of money because they don’t take insurance, and I haven’t been able to get real tests from them (for example, they don’t do endoscopy). I’ve never heard of mastic gum. I just googled it. My doctor asked me not to take anything until I’ve completed all medical tests. I’m taking the SIBO breath test today. I don’t have a diagnosis yet.
