It makes me more anxious but that’s due to the nausea

Been on a compound for little over month. Have lost 7lbs. Def fatigued and waves of depression. I never increased dosage and don’t plan to because I already feel awful. So I’ll keep on the slow weight loss. It’s a trade off. Losing weight without GLP-1 took a TON of work and I was always hungry. This is easy but I’m tired and at times depressed. But it’s also a sucky time of the year.

That is interesting, because I have gone from MAYBE 1 glass of wine a month, to now liking alcohol for the first time in my life. I'm still at 1-2 drinks a week, so not heavy at all, but heavy for me.

Zepbound.

I thought it was supposed to ELIMINATE alcohol cravings in people with alcoholic tendencies, but maybe it just changes them in everyone?

I’m an outlier because I haven’t lost a single pound but after a year I can say it absolutely helps my mental clarity. Prior to Mounjaro I was often foggy before eating and groggy after eating. My FASTING blood sugar was always in the low 120s and I think my brain was on a blood sugar roller coaster all day. Now my fasting blood sugar is always in the low 80s and I just feel even. I have zero side effects, eat a normal balanced diet and it’s a miracle drug for me. (I had tried metformin before but it literally made me poop myself). I’m 5’8” and 160lbs so I wouldn’t cry if I lost weight but am also totally fine with my body as is.

I had previously done WW multiple times, Noom, Calibrate with live counseling, and similar programs and I found it really counterproductive to be constantly having to meet and talk about food and journal about food and complete little lessons about food. All that focus on food is not healthy or helpful, imo. With meds, I'm simply not hungry and I don't think about it. My life is so much better.

My insurance has added a new requirement for 2026 that I join their version of WW with counseling and I'm dreading it.

Absolutely. I was always depressed thinking about my weight, my clothes, how I looked in photos, etc. I feel like I have more confidence and an extra pep in my step now that I’m not daily thinking of how I can’t lose weight gained during Covid and pregnancies.

The first few weeks I did have insane cravings for sweets but that went away after a few weeks.

I am experiencing positive mental side effects. Most significantly, my ability to stick to all tasks (including doing what I need to to lose weight) has greatly improved. Whereas before my to do list grew longer while I scrolled and accomplished little, now I have this ability to push through with the mundane and important tasks in my life. Plus, have gone from 227 to 197 in 5 months. I was on Ozempic for two years and lost no weight. This is much better! My main side effect is constipation.

I've stayed on it though -- I've gone from 227 to 153, which got me from obesity to a "normal" bmi, and helped all kinds of other health problems (sleep apnea, knee pain, skin problems, etc). So it has been worth it.

But the side effects (I hadn't mentioned the awful GI stuff) are horrific. So I wouldn't go on one for "mental health," I'd only recommend for people fighting obesity. Which you say you have. So go ahead and take a GLP1 if you want, but I wouldn't hold my breath for it to help your mental health. And it might make it worse.

NP-Had that experience with semaglutide. In retrospect I think the exhaustion was really what led to the other issues. I was too tired to do much which led to my feeling so down, no energy to work out. Also had some minor GI issues. Switched to tirzepatide and I have NO side effects, at all. I feel great in every way.

The tiredness doesn't last forever. Maybe a month at most. i really felt similar to being first trimester pregnant. Semi nauseous and very tired.

I was tired and a little nauseous the whole time I lost weight. Once I reached my goal weight and am continuing to take a steady dose, I have no tiredness or nausea at all.

I am 10 months in and still experience the day after the shot. Nausea varies from mild to quite bad that same day.

Not having to count calories, which has been a burden in my life since my mid-teens, has been an incredible reduction in my mental load.

Yes and no. I feel better weighing less. But over the course of losing weight it wasn’t easy. I lost hair like after giving birth because I was losing weight too quickly at one point. I get stomachaches all of the time, I get cold way more often, for a while I got the painful skin thing. It wasn’t that bad but it wasn’t a walk in the park either.

It improved my mental health in a sense that it reduced (obviously did not eliminate) the struggle of losing weight. I felt very self-conscious about being overweight, especially when I gave presentations in public or had to speak at high profile meetings. Being closer to normal weight has eliminated that aspect. Also being on calorie restriction to try to lose and function while you are hungry also makes it more difficult mentally to get through the day. It's easier to exercise which boosts medical health. GLP-1 has had many indirect benefits for my mental health.

It helped with my anxiety/obsessive thoughts, not just the ones around food.

I have never been a heavy drinker - maybe one glass a week - but if I miss my Wegovy dose by more than a few days I notice that I want a drink.
