It was a psycho-thriller / drama and social commentary. It didn't have one clear message which is maybe why you're confused. It was really there to pose questions in the mind of the viewers. We had to decide who was guilty, what was the right course of action etc.

The scene where I was convinced he was guilty was earlier than the apartment scene. It was when he was recounting the evening to Julia Roberts while chowing down a bunch of Indian food. I think if he were innocent he would have been a bit more distraught and unable to eat. But he was eating and talking as if he didn't have a care in the world. It was very weird.

I appreciated that there wasn’t a flashback that gave a clear cut answer to if Hank actually raped Maggie. The audience is left to make their own mind. Hanks aggressiveness in that Apartment scene left me with the conclusion that he did. If a good friend and professional equal had to shove him off when he got horny her then Maggie in a similar situation wouldn’t have fared as well. To be clear I found her unlikeable in many ways but that’s got nothing to do with if she was telling the truth about being a victim.
I agree. I was not sure, I suspected he had done, and that later scene with JR confirmed it, yes.

I found Maggie’s partner, Alex, to be one of the most annoying characters - and that’s saying something considering how awful all of them were.
