I liked that I was getting out of the house but it was never too crowded (which let's be honest was part of the death knell). Since covid, I think we've only been once or twice.
The thing is you get a decent enough meal at a good price point. You know what you're getting, each of our favorites were really good (I love cobb salad and it's good there).
Lia's and Clyde's are a step up in terms of price. We've been to both but with kids, I'd pick cheesecake every time.
I'm sad it's closing. (and surprised - I had high hopes that Trader Joe's would be enough to ignite more energy into Friendship Heights.
I haven't rigorously studied pricing of the places you mentioned, but on a visit to CF about six months ago, I thought the prices were much higher than I had remembered (even factoring in inflation), and the portion sizes were smaller. I think that for comparable dishes, Clyde's is likely cheaper. We're not big fans of Italian food, so haven't been to Lia's in forever.

That building in which Maggianos is housed has been sold and slated for redevelopment. I assume that will happen and Maggiano's will have to close, if temporarily during the development.

I agree. Maggianos is one of the few businesses left that’s both a destination for people from outside of the neighborhood and a reliable option for people who live nearby. I’d say the same for Clyde’s and Sushiko.
The Trader Joe’s has been crazy busy, so it’s off to a good start.

They should turn every building there into high end condos and apartments with retail on the street level and include 3br units for families who want to get in the desirable school zones nearby.
They should move Bloomingdale’s and Saks up to the White Flint site and turn it into a nicer town center than Pike and Rose. Think Tyson’s Galleria mixed with Bethesda Row. Rework the I-495 intersection nearby to allow eastbound traffic to go up Wisconsin / Rockville Pike without doing a U Turn while you’re at it.
Problem solved and everyone wins. No one wants to go to department stores and deal with that traffic near Friendship Heights, but high end condos and apartments would do great because of Metro proximity and great schools. White Flint needs to be redeveloped.
