We get very little sand in the house (although the car is another story). The basics:

• everyone and everything that was at the beach gets rinsed off in the outdoor shower before entering the house or going in the pool
• beach chairs and beach toys get stored in the garage
• sandy shoes get placed in a bin that's outside on the patio
• beach towels do not get brought inside until the sand is thoroughly shaken out of them, and if they are wet I will leave them to dry outside first

If there’s an outside shower you can avoid sand in the house by showering and removing clothes before you go in and by leaving shoes and beach toys outside. I have a beach house (not a rental) and we do not have a sand problem.

I'm envisioning you walking in with fully sand-caked feet. Why aren't you washing/toweling off before you get to the hotel?

WTF? You should not be tracking sand into hotels and rentals! Leave your stuff outside and rinse off before going in.

I hate feeling sand on my bare feet so I’m constantly sweeping when we are at the beach. Anything that comes in gets swept out.

We rinse feet or entire bodies, depending how sandy we are, before going in, usually there's something to rinse with: we've gone to out of the way spots without beach showers, but each house usually has at least a external hose. And before we leave, I do my best to sweep as much sand as possible.
