I don't see any benefits in any of the models for region 5. Region 5 doesn't have any currently established, successful programs except Magruder's aviation program.

Region 1 has a lot of established programs (Blair SMCS/CAP, Einstein VAC, Whitman social justice, BCC IB...)
Region 3 has Wheaton Engineering
Region 4 has RMIB
Region 6 has Poolesville SMCS/Humanities/Global

I'm surprised there hasn't been more push back from Region 5 parents.

QO parents are unhappy at losing access to Poolesville HS magnets.

And this is one of the main problems with the new plan - many families are actually losing access instead of gaining it. Region 5 is not the only one that is getting short end of the stick. Regions 2 and 3 are in a similar position. Even if we assume that they had the right idea - going with six regions was wrong. Why not, for example, four with increased number of seats for each magnet. You achieve the same result in terms of opening spots for academically advanced kids but have fewer number of new magnets that need to be established. Bus routes may be a bit longer on average but you are saving with 10 fewer magnets and can use that to hire quality teachers.
