Many don't know this but the site the mall sits on was a major battlefield during the civil war.

That's just wasteful. I am just wondering why so many stores left in droves? I get the covid thing but did the mall drive them out by having too high leasing fees? Tysons is far and too much traffic. Fairfax corner leaves a lot to be desired. Not much going on there.

Most of the stores that left were companies not doing good. Forever 21: Bankrupt. Gap/BR: Closed 500+ locations, Aveda: Closing stores, Hollister: Closed hundreds of stores before recent revitalization

Sorry meant to say Abercrombie not Hollister. The major chains that are still there are doing quite well.

Meanwhile upscale stores and designers are more likely to go to the Galleria, Bethesda or downtown. Our population can’t support so many shopping destinations.

Dulles hasn't had a Nordstrom since 2017 where have you been?

It had Laura Ashley. 😊

Wow. That was a trip down memory lane!

Adored their fabrics. I bought a bunch when they were shutting down the store. My first home had balloon curtains we carefully put together. The Laura Ashley fabric really lent itself to the cottage look of my balloon curtains.

Same. It was beautiful in its heyday.

Fairfax Corner is busy as hell- have you been in the past year? Tons of stores and restaurants, new condo building- and I avoid because parking is atrocious.

The mall was really great 10 years ago. Tysons was bigger and had more stores but fair oaks was probably just one step below. Now when I go to tysons, it's better than it was 10 years ago, and fair oaks is 1000 times worse. The surrounding area has grown in population and is a relatively affluent area for the most part so it's difficult to understand. I still remember when there was Sears, hechts, Lord and Taylor and just one Macy's, because one is bad enough.
