That’s the point of the thread. People ARE Letting their kids choose. You just wanted to complain

If "you". You means the parent presumably .

Bowdoin - seems to have a lot of overlap with schools my DD likes, but we never made it out to tour and she couldn't quite get into it.

Dayton. I think my kid would love it. No interest.

Depauw. Strong school that is off the beaten path. Plus, generous with aid. No interest.

Temple. Good fit academically and a good value for us (we are in-state). Took a tour and he hated it.

what? I would tell school to F off. My kid is not going to change their list because of what the school thinks.

Always a good idea to tell someone to F off right before they write your kids rec

Williams. Such a wonderful place and a great education with so many opportunities. Going there for undergrad was one of the best decisions of my life. But one kid would have been a long shot and the other wanted a less remote SLAC.

I wouldn't add a particular school to my DC's list- however, I did insist that they apply to at least one small private college and at least one large public flagship. I think what they think they want in the fall of their senior year can be different than what they may want the following spring- also the application and acceptance process gives insights into how schools treat and communicate with students that you don't appreciate until you experience it

I’d also want my kid to go to Williams, though Amherst is on their list, which is good.

Because they’re sock puppetting.

I can't believe high schools still get away with this.

"could" is the conditional tense. no one did this. but you're still allowed to own your own feelings in 2025.
