Feel really bad for the girls with acne. I would not have kept my self confidence through middle school if I hadn't been able to master concealer, powder, and a bit pf blush to just look normal. Yes, I was under tthe care of a dermatologist.

Same here, although my issue was terrible under eye circles and blonde eye lashes. I looked like a heroin addict without makeup, but with it I felt pretty and confident.

My 13 year old started with Essence Lash Princess mascaras, NYX mascara and L’Oreal Lash Paradise mascara.

She wears a very light/natural tinted lip gloss some days, and adds a subtle cheek stain sometimes when she wakes up early enough.

Maybelline or
Ask your child. Sure she has a few brands in mind.

No to Maybelline. The girls all want Sephora. Try Rare Beauty or Tower 28.

It started out with tinted lip balm, a little blush, Vaseline for eyelashes, then sneaking into my makeup bag for mascara. I just talked to her about setting limits on makeup when she went full face makeup to thanksgiving. I told her that at 13, she can only wear makeup for special occasions such as weddings and that she looks so much better with a clean face. Apparently all the cool girls wear makeup in school, especially mascara. I’m resetting expectations with her that she is limited to tinted lip balm for school, no mascara until high school.

You are foolish to make something so benign into forbidden fruit.

My 7th grader (just turned 13) plays on a 2012 girls soccer team - so mostly 8th graders.

When they met up socially off the field I barely recognize some of the girls with their hair styled and their makeup. They do a tasteful job though! It looks nice.

I never really learned how to do makeup and she hasn’t expressed much interest yet.

Same. Still true in 8th.

+1. This seems reasonable to me. I have been clear about not sharing eye makeup and throwing mascara away when old.

I would hope no school would object to (or even notice) concealer or tinted moisturizer. These bans are usually for eye makeup and lipstick.

My 7th grade daughter has a full set of makeup for dance and theatre (I mention because it's not an issue of access/being "allowed"), but doesn't wear any day-to-day.

If she is dressing up, she will wear mascara and lip gloss.
