This seems crazy to me so I’m wondering if this fairly common for private school teams and are certain schools/sports more likely than others to do this? I’m in DMV so particularly interested to know if this is what we have to “look forward to.”

This is the actual high school team or a club team comprised of high school aged athletes? Was the sport in season (eg hockey over winter break or baseball during spring break) and was this something you were aware of when your kid went out for the team? Obviously this is an additional expense—how does that work?
The schools we are looking at for HS are those where DS anticipates being able to continue playing his primary sport and will also need to play at least one other to meet school requirements. Depending on where he lands he may or may not continue with his club team. Not sure private school tuition + the expense of trips to FL (or wherever) + club fees is an equation that makes sense for our family.
If the financial aspect of playing a school team are make or break for whether you can afford the school, please talk to the school about what costs are involved in team participation, not just anonymous people on DCUM.

DC’s math class on Monday had three students in it because everyone else was at the Latin convention.
