We stop every 3 hours, depending on time of day and how cold it is outside

My kids fall asleep in the car so to avoid accidents we do still use the pull-ups for very long trips. It’s not because we aren’t going to make rest stops but when you have younger kids you have to be prepared.

Every stop you have to give it the Old College Try.

We regularly drive to Ohio to see grandparents. Actually driving time is about 6.5 hours, so any stops add to that. We usually plan two stops. When the kids were newly potty trained, we had a tiny portable potty in the car, which we had to use a couple times when someone desperately needed to go with little notice and we were in the middle of nowhere. Other than those times, I refuse to stop anywhere other than service plazas on the PA turnpike, because that’s the shortest stop you can possibly make. Restrooms, gas, and food in one location, with not a single extra mile added onto the trip. Bonus: if your battery dies on the PA turnpike, there’s a number you can call for a free jump, without waiting two hours for the tow truck to show up. It’s a looong drive from the last service plaza on the PA turnpike to the first rest stop on the OH turnpike.

Mine wear diapers when we travel but it’s because they will sometimes have an accident if they fall asleep

We drive as long as we can and then when someone has to pee everyone gets out and tries to go. To be honest, my old pelvic floor ain't what she used to be and so it's usually me who has to pee again first.

When we pass the rest stop sign we call out “anybody need to go?” and then either pull over or pass. If the kid is sleeping we will usually drive past.

This. Have kids. If we haven’t stopped the car in last 2-3 hours, we will find a stop.

We stop whenever someone needs to use the bathroom and/or gas and food. It pretty much evens out to about every 2 hrs. My parents use to make us pee in coffee cans. Now that I’m an adult, that seems insane. It’s good for everyone to get out and stretch every couple hrs anyhow.
