This is anecdotal nonsense

No, anecdotal nonsense is posting UGA is very hard to get into for even in-state and as competitive as UMichigan. Then a poster in the same thread posts actual stats from UGA's own blog stating the in-state EA for Georgia residents this cycle is at a whopping 45% up from 42% last cycle.

You mean UGA says yes to less than half of their in-state applicants? Dig deeper and look at the amount of AP required along with the required grades. UGA requires the SAT thus cannot be compared to ANY college that is TO.

You obviously don’t get it or you have an axe to grind. Regardless, you’re not credible.

Ridiculous. My kid loved Athens and hated Ann Arbor. Weather’s better and Georgia students were friendlier. Plenty of reasons to prefer UGA.

This is reassuring - thank you. My DD's high school only offers AP Senior Year, so essentially she applied with none.

Yup, I had told my kid based on all the naysayers to at least expect a deferral so we were thrilled when he got in EA.

Anonymous wrote:Very hard admit from my kid’s DC private that has no AP or IB curriculum. They were told directly by CCO that Georgia is a MUCH harder admit than Michigan for this school. The reason why is UGA does not weight for honors when they recalculate their GPA, so there is no way to get above a 4.0 in their system for any kid at this HS. And without a GPA above a 4.0, OOS admission is virtually impossible. I don’t even think they make it to the next round.

My kid had 1 B+ in a rigorous school honors class (and had several honors classes each year) but that can't compete with kids who take a ton of AP or IB and therefore end up with a higher weighted GPA with many more Bs. They also take a much higher percentage in-state than Michigan or Wisconsin.

But in a school with AP/IB, I can see it being pretty equal to Michigan or Wisconsin - though Michigan ED will change the ballgame. Also, Georgia is very transparent about their admissions standards in their website if anyone wants more info.

My kid got into both UGA and UM during EA last year. We were told to expect UGA as an easier admit. They did offer pretty good scholarship money.

UGA is having its moment. If you’re lucky enough to get in, you take that offer.
