There is somehting unique about midwest schools, Chicago, NU, and ND. Are these schools going to stay test optional for a longer period of time or possibly permanently?

This may be overlooked by many, but the article says about 30% of their REA admits did not submit scores. Notre Dame is a solid viable option for test optional kids.


Div 1 sports for 2 of them. Much more $$$

Agreed. And with the new AP Precalc exam, you can get AP scores in all four core subjects from kids taking a bog-standard college prep junior year schedule of AP Lang, APUSH, AP Physics 1, and AP Precalc. It’s a hair’s breadth away from being A Levels.

I'm not even worried about AP precal. I just think that with the level of competition in their pool, I'm guessing they have kids in APs that are way more advanced. Who cares if they can read a passage and answer a few questions on the SAT when you know they've done AP Lang and AP Lit?

Um, where did you get that sense? It is #20 in the USNWR rankings and has a business school, college of science, college of arts and letters, school of architecture, college of engineering, school of global affairs, and a law school.

I did a quick google. For the class of '22, 44% of enrollees attended public school; 38% attended Catholic school; and 18 percent attended private/charter school.

Sure. But an AP Precalc score is a standardized test score in a core subject that isn’t an SAT/ACT score, so it’s extremely useful for schools that want to play the rankings game.
