Really, Cold Spring should be closed. All of the Wootton cluster elementaries are well under capacity, and projected to keep decreasing. That money could be better spent on other projects.
Have you stepped foot in Cold Spring? Yes, it is considered "under capacity" but the actual capacity is no where near what it is claimed to be. There is no space for a carpet for kids to sit on for whole group. Much of the "square footage" is literally stairs in the classroom. During a shelter in place, due to weather, kids are forced to take shelter in bathrooms and tiny cramped closets. As someone who works there, there is no space for a class of more than 20, ESPECIALLY in the upper grades. Yes, our population is Potomac but these kids are still entitled to a free, public education. They are still children and shoving these kids into already at-capacity classes in neighboring schools won't help anyone.
I’m confused. You talk convincingly about the unacceptable conditions CS students endure… but you don’t want them to move to a better school?

Wootton #1 (not ADA compliant, plumbing issues are disastrous on a daily basis and so much more).
Cold Spring should be closed because it doesn't work ad an ES with it's open walls, and, it's too small to bother with. Plenty of space in nearby schools
All the others mentioned should be next on the list, but Wootton is first and Cold Spring should be never (too much money for too few students).

Agree about Wootton . I don't think it's ever been renovated since it was built in the early 70s.

Cold Spring is the third best elementary school in the entire state of Maryland. Why would they close that? Cold Spring’s enrollment goes up every year. Also, why would you want to close ANY school? That would make class sizes at the other schools go up.

+1 - earlier in the thread Eastern and the Old Blair were mentioned and there is no world where Wootton or Cold Spring would be in line before either of those two...

Glad to see Newport Mil on this list. It is a dump. When my kid was there the sink in the teacher's lounge had a sign on it warning the water was not potable.
Best practice would be to get drinking water from the water fountains with filtered water option.

Yeah... looking at pp 136-137 of the CIP

it's pretty crazy to see a proposal for the construction of a new elementary school in 2031 with a projected ES utilization of 73% utilization in that area then. That's more than enough space to accommodate students if a school needs to close.
