What are the stats? That will make a difference with merit. Is your kid top of class? If strong, expect the following (range) of merit:

Cities:
Case Western ($20-35k at least of merit per year if you show enough DI)
Tulane - you might qualify for merit if EA and strong!!
American - might qualify for merit!
Pitt
Rochester ($15-25k merit)
Fordham

Non-Urban:
Elon ($20-25k merit)
Richmond (lots of merit for top kids)
Denison
Dickinson
Lehigh
Lafayette
Miami-Oh ($20-40k merit)
Davidson/Wake (if the kid is top of class, merit is possible)

Probably the right path. Unless pre-med, biochemistry is going to require a graduate degree for any real career. Go to UMD, save $250-300K, and then pick somewhere for grad school.

Maybe University of Rochester? It is a tier down from GU, so your DC may be eligible for a merit award from Rochester. I think that it is strong in the scienes and located in a city.

DePaul will most likely give you gobs of merit. You trade dollars for selectivity, career bump, prestige, etc.

Case Western is also $92K. I think the point of the post was that GU was too expensive. [/quote
Case offers merit aid though.

Case is well known for offering generous merit aid. A student who is competitive for GU would likely be a good candidate for merit aid at Case, thus bringing down the cost quite a bit.

He's interested in biochemistry so a good arts and science school. He liked the small campus size and access to town. He also likes that it's relatively close to home.

American University Honors College? They give great merit for strong students.

Not anymore, I think they are running out of money

RPI is good too. Or any state flagship.

RPI is only $87K, so much cheaper.

It's just as expensive as Georgetown and not nearly as good.

The social scene is really intense at Richmond.
