Never wanted a house as a single person, but also not ready to buy a condo quite yet. I rent in the building I want to buy and renting is much cheaper.
Rents just went down another 10%. They don't always go up.
I actually moved, because landlord raised rent. Got top floor unit with no foot steps above.
I have owned 3 properties before, so it's not like I don't know how it feels. All were bad investments compared to stock market. They were also headache. Nothing fundamentally wrong. Just things that come with real estate.
My investment account gives me the warm fuzzy feeling house usually gives. Landlord asked me to stay for a long time as they don't even live in US. I know the building well as I owned here and now rent.
More and more people are doing the math renting vs buying finally.
When we bought, we didn't do the math really and didn't even know stock market was an option. Times have changed.
Family still owns several properties here and abroad. Glad they didn't do their math either. Nobody is going to be homeless.

Eh, when I get nervous like OP, I try to remember “Don’t bet against America” - I think we’ll find our way again over time. It’s too ingrained in our country culturally.

Buying a house is to live in it, life style not for speculation.
If you don’t buy you will be renting so look at buy vs rent ratio.

if you think the U.S. will be a uniformly undesirable place to live in the near future, you're of course now renting month-to-month, with your go-bag packed, and an income stream you can maintain from outside the country. And you have somewhere to go which is more politically to your liking, giving you the quality of life you want despite your lack of citizenship, possible a lack of language skills, and perhaps an inability to integrate into a fantasy foreign country with a different culture, tax structure, social conditions, health care standards and capabilities, and politics of its own.

Maybe come back down to earth and make the best of where you are, which is very likely far better than any alternatives actually and realistically available to you unless you really want a dramatically reduced standard of living.

If you even have an ability to move overseas, you know, this eliminates a lot of people from being able to relate to you. The opinions of a person who has ability to get foreign citizenship and the one who doesn't (or doesn't have funds to get golden visas) are going to be different.

Grass is greener outlook always need perspective and talking to people who made these choices to see if they are happy or regret it.

The world is always in flux. There is no country in the world not affected by changes or where situation is guaranteed to remain the same as when you arrive there.

What world are you living in? The US has never been better, kicking these illegals OUT!!
