I have trouble understanding why I'm so upset about the shutdown. I got to stay home, organize my closet etc. And I'm also irritated about the chaotic reopening. I submitted my resignation. I just want a normal job where we do productive things.

This is so funny. I work all hours with all time zones and every now and again when I'm about to push "send" on an email or a teams chat, I see the clock and wonder (if it's exactly on the hour) if people are going to wonder if I'm scheduling things to make it look like I'm working at different times. But then I work with sane people who don't think like this and are just happy to keep comms open. And of course the VPN and badging is tracking real-time!

+1, I have been in and really busy with something. I felt out of step with the people (who I like!) who wanted to chat and catch up.

Our servers were down. I could not do almost any thing. Hoping they are up today.

I had to work about half the shutdown. Worked on an urgent project and then it got delayed and then when we got closer to the new deadline I went back to work again. So I had a ton of meetings and fire drills related to that. It was nice having people around who could answer questions but I didn’t have time to catch up with colleagues yet and I miss being able to focus without email interruptions - the only perk of working when most people at my agency were not.

We lost two. And have no clue whether we’ll be able to backfill. In my role industry is a much more fruitful career than gov so those who serve really do it for the mission.

It was extremely quiet. Cold enough that I had to take a walk to feel my toes after two hours. Maintenance came and turned the heat on around noon, thank goodness. No IT or payroll issues, my agency had told us we were expected to check email once or twice a day on furlough as well as do our own timesheets so nobody got locked out.

I think this week is just going to be catch up and triage. Figuring out what we actually think we can do in FY26 after the dust settles will be the hard part.

We were told the first order of business was completing our time and attendance and our paycheck system went down so everyone spent the entire day refreshing the paycheck system.
