I think it would be cooler if it was more round or 3D.

Like the smaller older one.

Looks like it might be designed for display since it's not very deep.

Hahahaha, do you think $1000 Legos are made for kids?

They’re made for people who enjoy lego, kids or adults. Duh.

DP here. Lego has an age rating for all of the sets: this Death Star is 18+. Yes, it is a “suggestion” but it is definitely not for “kids”, teenagers maybe.

And look how is “building” the set in the product description photos on Lego site:

I mean, I'm a 38 year old woman who still likes putting Legos together. It's a bit zen, like knitting.

Did he ask for it? We've done expensive gifts for our kids but only items they really really wanted (gaming system) or something utilitarian like a laptop or bike. Otherwise, I'd find something smaller in the Star Wars/Lego universe.

Anonymous wrote:If your kids into legos, this is time to do it and then break it down and resell it- easy to do online and you’ll get at least 1/2 your $ back. Your kid will remember building the Lego set if you do with them. Just don’t drink your Starbucks for a year or pack a lunch instead of buy it and then won’t be any worse off for $

We have started the great Lego sell off and if you keep all the pieces, box and manual you can get a big chunk back, of course it can be a pain in the a$$ too. We have been able to get decent money even with some of the pieces missing

Ha! Here is the key point: if he is indeed going to outgrow it soon - better not waste 1K and just buy something smaller for a fraction of the cost.
BUT there is a subset of guys (well, maybe some girls, too) who really appreciate Lego AND Star Wars who NEVER outgrow it.
This Death Star is for them.

That reasoning is stupid. Childhood is fleeting. Strike while the iron is hot.

It's the death star! I'm sure you can hang it!
Quick google shows a wall mounting kit:

That is the old one! Not the same - the current one is the crosssection with a multitude of minifigures!

You have the one from several years back, the current one is much more expensive (the record for any LEGO ever $999.99) and has a ton of Star Wars minifigures.

Agree with PP - if your child really wants it, go for it! Let us know how it goes 😉

We bought the Harry Potter Lego castle as our biggest Lego in 2020 and had to actually ensure a core piece of storage furniture for our tiny home had a large enough top to display it. DH is disappointed that not all of his nice Lego sets are on display because we just don't have a lot of flat surface area for them. So echoing "think about where it goes" first.

PS: I'm not a shrew, DH is the one who wanted the tiny historic house because of "character." And now he says he wishes he had a man cave. He picked it....
