why not just outside? It doesn't get too cold here for playgrounds. The idea of letting her crawl on public floors - a mall??? so disgusting. Let her play outside or in your apartment. They really don't need a ton of space.

Your kids crawled for 6 months before walking?

That’s completely normal….

The end of normal.

+1 If you're worried about germs, keep your baby in your tiny apartment. Crawling on a public library or indoor playground floor is never going to be particularly hygienic. Or invest in some heavy duty winter gear and keep her on the outdoor playgrounds.[/quote]

THIS. It's hardly that cold out. Get a fleece suit, mittens, a long coat for you, and go outside. It's healthier.

I'd go to outdoor playgrounds as much as possible, especially the ones that have two separate areas - for big and little kids - like Kalorama. Look into one piece overalls (like a snowsuit), they are usually waterproof so the mud wipes off easily, and that makes getting ready a breeze. Just need a single base layer underneath most of the winter here.

Fairfax nature centers can be good for this.

At that age, we did the library, museums (shout out to Museum of the American Indian for having a great play place), the National Children’s Museum (which does have a separate play place based on ave), and Little Gym. Sickness is going to be a part of life for the next 10 years, though. The best you can do is try to wash hands a ton.

just reading this gives me the ick-- so many germs. let them crawl at home. illnesses are mostly airborne. my 8 month old currently has covid thanks to my preschooler bringing it home... but older kid was never sick until starting preschool thanks to only playing outside

The big open area in the building museum perhaps.

Can she do stairs? The giant basilica at CUA in NE has miles of polished floors and stairs!

Brookside Nature Center in Wheaton has a small playroom, it's generally not crowded.
Outdoor spaces are better than indoor for not picking up germs. Brookside Garden (next door to the nature center in Wheaton) has some play areas for kids that aren't really "running around" areas and might woek. They also have a some grass areas that might be good for crawling as they don't allow pets and they have a fence to keep away deer.

You house is best. Anything public in cold and flu season is a terrible idea.
Maybe meet with another mom or two and rotate houses/apartments to get a little variety.
