You could try the ILSO sebum softener and scraping tool. The tool can also be used with exfoliating toners. Basically you soak cotton pads with the softener or toner, leave them on for a few minutes and then use the tool to extract the sebum or blackheads.

This and the scrubbing with a wash cloth are like the worst things you can do to your face at 55.

I would go more simple and gentle. Remove the cleaning balm. AM water only plus moisturize and sunscreen. In the PM if you have to double cleanse use a face oil (not balm), tret, moisturizer. You don't need an exfoliant with tret. Your skin may be doing a mild freak out with exfoliant and tret.

If you go low and slow with tret then you can use it every night/other night and not need anything else treatment wise.

After washing your face, make a paste with a few drops of water and ground adzuki beans. Rub the paste gently on your nose, then rinse. In my case, the dark dots will be completely gone, and the pores will appear smaller. This will last for a few days, then repeat as needed. After I ran out of the powdered grains, I was able to find adzuki beans, and would grind them myself in my nutmeg grinder. I’m not sure where to buy them already ground.

This is similar to the Japanese Cleansing Grains, except that the Body Shop version was 100% adzuki beans.

A hydrafacial with extraction works. Also, lasers and microneedling.

No, they're probably sebum, and sebum is necessary for skin health

I have started using COSRX Niacinamide 2% + BHA 4% Blackhead Exfoliant Toner, it is helping.

My guess as well — pores & sebaceous filaments. I complained about blackheads to my Derm and she corrected me. She suggested micro needling can also help after a few sessions.
