The question is: why did you think CVS was for the poors?

Weird post is weird. People with insurance use urgent cares/minute clinics.

By the way, I am one of those people who loves CVS. I unfortunately had great insurance with the ACA marketplace with Aetna/CVS. They're no longer offering the insurance next year 2026.

Why are you assuming people who use the CVS Minute Clinic do not have insurance. Some of the people, sure, fall into that category, but usage of the Minute Clinic does not automatically mean the patient doesn't have insurance at all.

I’m so confused. I live in a wealthy area in NYC and everyone I know goes to CityMD. Getting an appointment with your doc the same day is almost impossible.

I also see elderly wealthy people grocery stores. Some weird!

Medical care in this country sucks your told to go to urgent care but they can't do chit there. Nothing. And they're all over the place it's a total sham.

There's no affluent area that doesn't also have poor people at least working, and most likely living, there. How far do you think that CVS worker commutes?

Anyway, even if you have insurance, urgent care is the fastest way to either get seen or get a referral. A lot of people (especially men) don't have a GP they'd go to if they suddenly developed an issue.

It’s all about knowing what facility/provider is best for what you have going on. This is what I’ve figured out for my family:

PCP: overall health, chronic issues, checkups, referrals, medication

Minute clinic: acute illnesses (strep throat, ear ache), vaccines, school/employment forms, rashes, minor injury (I once went there to get a deep splinter removed)

Urgent care: anything lung related, moderate injury that might need an x-ray, any illness listed above if I can’t get a minute clinic appointment same day.

ER: injury with blood, allergic reaction, anything heart related, anytime a child wakes up screaming in pain (turned out to be appendicitis)

I’m sure there are other situations that I would assess and choose where to go. We are very lucky that we have amazing insurance so we have many options.

I have Kaiser permanente (obviously different) and I use their urgent care for anything urgent. By the time I take my kids in for an ear infection- I need it asap. Or when I have bronchitis, I’m not waiting a week for a regular doctor appt. Their urgent care is so good. They’ve fixed broken bones, stitches, X-rays instantly, called in a surgeon from another state when dh cut his finger off. I can’t imagine why I’d ever need to use an ER.

Regular doctors are for things like long term health issues that need to be managed.
