Putting a kid in a booster too small for an adult seat belt is not bubble wrapping your kid. It’s common sense.

OP you can only control whats in your car or what your kid does. Have some boosters in your car for other kids and send one with yours if the other person doesnt provide. I did this.

Others may not use the booster. Be the driver and if a child refuses one, don't drive them.

A woman died today ( Sunday) in a rollover accident in Silver Spring. When she woke up today she didn’t plan on dying in a car accident. When she got in her car she didn’t plan on dying in a car accident.
You never know what’s going to happen. Protect your kids every time they get in a car.

People are so weird, the US has the sad distinction of being #1 in car accidents in the west, too many careless drivers. Why in the world wouldn’t you use something as simple as a booster seat which could save the LIFE of your child. It’s not a bubble it’s basic common sense, and being a responsible parent.

OP as I said before do what is right for your family. Sounds like that means don't carpool. Not having your kid ride without proper safety equipment, not trying to wrangle other kids onto boosters you buy and they fight because they don't use them with parents. That fiighting will just make your kid unpopular.

My sister still has her 10yo in a 5 point harness. It might seem crazy but she is small and niece doesn’t really care either.

It's a racist law, and it's also designed to financially hurt poorer people as well.

How? A booster seat is less than $20.

No, no car seat is insane.

Do you bubble wrap them up also? Good lord, the mental health issues some parents cause their kids with all their OCD anxiety safety crap, will come back to haunt them.

Rules aside, you can kind of see it with your own eyes that small children will have belts run across their necks and booster makes sense till they are a bit taller.

Not as haunted as the parents of kids who are horribly injured or killed in car accidents, I absolutely promise.

^ This person is bad at physics.

OP, it's not legal but also nobody is ticketing this. You can make your own kid use the appropriate seat and you can require appropriate seats for anybody you're driving in your car. This may mean you don't carpool.

Drive carefully leadfoot momma. The world doesn't run on your schedule, so allow more time for slower and safer driving and your kids won't need to be ensconced in a ridiculous roll cage safety seat.

No matter how carefully you drive, somebody else can always t-bone you. That's why we wear seat belts.

Seat belts don't fit little kids correctly. In some crashes, they can and have caused fatal internal damage. That's why we have car seats and boosters up until a certain height and weight.

I have a 9 and a 6 year old. Still night back boosters in the car. The oldest is barely 50lbs. I do not need someone to plow into us and her have a damaged spine or worse. It's just basic safety. My kids have not complained.

Good practice is not mental health. You are having mental health issues if you don't udnerstand how accidents can happen and a seat belt is not enough.
