If they have younger kids, they are new to this, so explain it vs. giving them a hard time. I'm not even seeing the 34%.

3. Type "Einstein" into the box on the right and select "Albert Einstein High (0789)"
4. Scroll down to where it says "ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT"
5. Look at the percentage next to "Percent Proficient English Language Arts"
Link is valid. That's a good question, but there are a lot of kids whose English is not their first language. I wouldn't choose a school on those numbers alone. Talk to families. And, remember the culture changes every few years depending on the admin, teachers, parents, and students, so if there is a change in leadership, the school culture can change, good or bad.

How does it not answer your question? The at a glance makes it very clear that it's looking at 12th graders, and other documents go into more depth.
Now why the 2022-2023 10th graders at Einstein did so poorly on the ELA 10 MCAP I don't know. But whatever reason it was, it clearly is not a lingering issue because subsequent rates have been much higher.
Nowhere on the website or this document does it explain why the numbers under the MCAP tab are different. It doesn't say under MCAP that these are the tests administered in 2025. We just have to infer that, I guess.
Also, I see huge discrepancies in math proficiency rates between the report card and the MCAP tab. It's very bizarre. I shouldn't need to spend hours looking at this to try to understand it.
I mean, on the MCAP page it literally says "English Language Arts Data (2025)"?
Look, I totally agree the interface is not well designed and people shouldn't have to dig to understand it. But it takes like 2 extra minutes to find and reas the documentation to find the answers to your questions, but instead you spent far more time posting here asking other people to look it up for you rather than do it yourself. It's just a bit annoying.

I'm not worried about my kid's score as she is not in HS, nor am I particularly worried about the quality of education kids get at Einstein given that the 2025 proficiency rate seems aberrant. I do think it is fair to wonder how well schools are doing at teaching kids math and literacy as these skills are important for a lot of things in life.
And in general, the MD school report card website seems poorly designed and unclear - they could clearly label their tables and charts so you don't have to dig into other documents to find out what the numbers they are listing actually are.

And if the difference is due to the Report Card reflecting graduating seniors and the MCAP data being for whoever took the test that year - why did last year's seniors at Einstein do so poorly compared with seniors at other schools and Einstein students in other classes?

Pretty sure the number on the report card page is based on scores of 12th graders that year, while the MCAP page is based on test takers that year (which should be just 10th graders, right?) If you look at the MAP page back in 2023 when last year's seniors were in 10th, only 30% were proficient. In the following years it rose to 54% and then last year's test takers were at 68%. So lots of improvement at Einstein, apparently.
