Stanford specifically discourages alumni from submitting recommendations—I’ve talked to them as an alum about this precise issue. If you get a recommendation from an alum who also happens to be your teacher, coach, minister, or employer, great. But otherwise, it’s not recommended.

Top 20 school (not slac)

Letter of recommendation is for “other” (not counselor or teacher) bc of kid’s leadership and extensive impact. Letter is excellent (superlatives and lots of examples).

Let me Clarify:

So as an example, kid volunteers teaching a finance class at a school for low income kids for many years and letter writer knows abt that bc letter writer is a director of the ec program at the school.

I think this is more a situation where it's a good supplemental recommendation letter, and the writer happens to be an alum (which can't hurt).

This shouldn't supplant the two core teach recs, but does seem like a great supplemental recommendation.
