They were correct. It triggered so many other things too. His intellectualism was intimidating to many people, and I think that’s why people fell for Trump and his 5th grade speaking/writing style.
So, once we are finally done with Trump, will the pendulum swing back? Trump has brought to light everything that is wrong and ineffective about our system of government. The whole thing relies on having a president who cares about the rule of law and is a basically decent person. Will we fix the system now that we know how easily it can be hacked? There are too many things to name here, but I honestly think we need everything from term limits for congress to an aptitude test for candidates. Someone with a criminal record should be a no go for any public office. My friend had a dui 25 years ago, and Canada didn’t let him in their country last year because of it. But here we are, electing a felon as potus, and people even contemplating how he could still govern from prison if it came to that. What has happened to this country? I am all over the place right now, but basically I hope the pendulum swings back toward having very high standards for our elected officials. They should be the best and brightest in their field. This is how far we have fallen - Dan Quayle was basically ousted from society when he couldn’t spell potato. Trump posted “south carerdddd” and we hardly flinched.
It swings slowly but it always swings.
This, the only constant is change. It might not change back to the way it was, but hopefully something better. But it also might take 30 or 50 years for that.
