An acceptance rate of 91.8% (I just looked it up) is NOT good.

Arizona State University has a 90% acceptance but has some top notch programs. Acceptance rate tells you very little.

+1 especially for $83k a year!

They give crazy merit aid. Starts at $40,000/year for students with above 3.3 gpa. Also several additional scholarships students can apply for. My son attends, and it was his least expensive option except for the one public in-state he got in to. He also got into other more competitive small schools (Denison, Franklin and Marshall, Lafayette), and they were 2x to 3x as much.

He's a sports guy so I can't speak to that aspect, but his girlfriend is neither sporty nor artsy and she likes it. They are both strong students and have "free" time to pursue interests beyond their classes, like research with professors and volunteering.

We're looking at it too, and the sports-vibe and declining enrollment and mixed reviews give us pause, too. That said, apparently the biggest club on campus is the DnD club, and I spoke with a mom with a decidedly non-sporty kid there who said her kid was very happy and quickly found his people and made friends. I also know a fairly recent alum who loved his time there. The sense I get is that there is an athlete majority but the non-athlete population is warm and they find each other easily and have no problem belonging. The new APEX program for career readiness looks promising, and the school seems like a place where a student would receive a ton of personal attention. A great place for someone who really needs small and personalized. I'm not sure it's right for my student, but I think it does have a lot to offer.
