I really don’t care. If my neighbors use drugs inside of their own homes and OD, it’s their choice.

Well yeah, your relative is right in a way. In the 70s and 80s your elderly relative was young and robust, and could carry a gun in Manhattan to defend him/herself. Now he or she is much more frail.
