One thing I think Parkland really has going for it is the environment. It's significantly more positive at all levels - strong administration, teachers who seem to really enjoy their job, and student behavior - than some of our child's friends seem to be experiencing. It's an extremely diverse public middle school in a county where a lot seems to be in free fall right now - it's not perfect, but it does feel like a happy, supportive learning environment.

DP Parkland out of consortium parent. I agree with the complaint about too many 85% students in the classroom and the pace is too slow because of it.

Otherwise we are happy there.

PP again. I know a kid zoned for Clarksburg who pulled out after 6th grade. Rest are still here.

Parkland parent here - we live out of consortium and there are buses from other ES to Parkland - there is a bus going from Clarksburg, one from Montgomery Village, one from N.Potomac

My kid has to wake up at 6:15

No after school activity buses

My kid loved the elective classes

Advanced Math would be comparable with regular Math in a W school
Since the cut off is 85% many students struggle in the AIM classes and the teachers have to go at a slower pace to make sure everyone catches up. My kid finishes the work soon and is bored in class. Kid is keeping himself engaged at home by doing Khan Academy.

School looks run down but the teachers and admin are good.

Not much PTA involvement so not much fun stuff for the kids due to lack of funding

Kid made friends so will be finishing out 8th grade there. I suggested withdrawing but he wanted to continue.

If your kid wants to do medicine, there is an extra science class.

If your kid is into Math and CS, you would be better off in your home school. Magnet in name only.

Excuse me, after the public demands to speak with staff (not, demands that their questions be asked). The community did not go to sit in tables to speak with each other—they went to get questions answered.

It is ridiculous for the public to have to go to break out tables in the back to individually get questions answered. Most have the same questions and want to hear others’ questions.
