Fighter jets patrolled the DC airspace for days if not weeks after 9/11. That's what it sounds like. I remember the sound because I heard it.

Me again. I know there are regular fighter jet flights around DC, but generally not over Bethesda, where I live and work. I can see no official announcement online: usually they announce flights over the Pentagon, flights to honor fallen pilots, etc.
