Not that much, some gaming online with friends. Mostly work (referee), or homework, or video games. He is in clubs or sports 5 days per week until 6pm, that seems like enough socializing for him so I let it alone

They usually camped, dates with gf's, hung out at skating rink or pool halls, worked on cars or did boy scout stuff, gone hunting or fishing if they could, exercised, watched movies, read etc.

Freshmen. Between activities (just two) and catching up on sleep and schoolwork, there isnt much time on weekends.

No socialing except maybe going over to a neighbors house every other week. School friends are at school friends still. Im worried about that, but i dont see how he has time for much more anyway. Hes at school for clubs 2 hours after school 4-5 days a week and gets his socializing then i guess? So different from me growing up when friends were the main activity.

senior last year:

-pick-up basketball
-high school football, basketball, ice hockey games
-breakfast out with the guys
-parties and drinking
-poker
-golf
-bike rides down C&O canal
-job

Gym
Travel soccer
Plays golf
College apps
Hangs out with friends and girlfriend (they tend to rotate houses for group hangs)
Visits my parents who live locally
Yard work
In the summer he works as a lifeguard manager

Hanging out with friends most Friday evenings, meeting with competitive non-sports team on Saturday, homework/work for team/relax on Sunday. It's a good mix of busy-ness and relaxation.

DP. Yeah...my teen stepsons don't do this. They just shut themselves in their rooms and go on screens. Sometimes they are doing stuff on screens with friends, I think.

it seems so unhealthy. they don't socialize in person except in school. neither of them saw any friends in person over the summer.

You are not alone. I struggled a lot with my kid last summer and into this yr. He used to be so social and something flipped. I think something happened with his friends but he says it is all fine. He will still willingly do activities and is active in a lot of school.clubs but never just wants to hang out with people.

Goes to friends' houses to hang out or meets up to go rock climbing
Pickup soccer at the rec center
Online gaming with friends
Some solo screen time
Rides around the neighborhood, sometimes to go fishing at the nearby creek
Cooks
Homework
Helps me with house projects
Sleeps (five-hour nap yesterday!)

Be prepared for these boys to turn into manboys with zero social skills. They will live in your basement forever.

Mine is a homebody but he does umpire and play on a rec league. He reads, plays around an hour of computer games, cleans his room. If he seems like he needs something to do I send him on an errand (bikes) He will occasionally meet a friend for basketball or to throw a football. Like others have said I think he will be out a lot more when he gets his license.

He tries out recipes, watches movies with rest of family, goes for bike rides, does homework, meets up with friends, runs errands with mom, does chores, works 4 hrs at job…we limit screen time especially on weekends.

Op: mine is an 8th grader and he does things with family on weekends but not much with friends. He is a bit socially immature though

I have a junior and a freshman. Freshman year for both was a lot less social than when they were older or younger.

Older one typically has at least one social gathering (bonfire, poker night, meeting up at basketball courts), plus job, girlfriend, schoolwork, sports practice which is often followed by a meal out with teammates, plus homework and family stuff. Free time is phone scrolling/watching sports on tv/messing around on instrument.

Younger one watches a bunch of sports at home, plays games online with friends, goes to high school football games, sports practice, and works some weekends reffing soccer games. He also gets outside to fish, exercise, walk dog, and occasionally meet up to play sports with friends (though a lot less than in middle school), and cooks a lot. Takes more work to get him doing things though.
