I am a MS Math teacher. The class next door is U.S. History. Whenever I am able to overhear what’s being discussed, which is typically during my planning period, it’s one of three topics… the contributions of women and minorities, and something along the lines of how white people suck. This is truly not an exaggeration.

In addition to what everyone else said, they also had their own fires to deal with which were much more culturally significant to them. They might not know the details about the White House burning down, but ask any British second grader about The Great Fire of London and the broader implications it had on 17th century England and they will absolutely school you.

If you know history, you'd know burning the leader's house / palace / castle isn't uncommon. It's par for course. And happend everywhere.

But it does illustrate how little of the current White House is genuinely historic. Between the War of 1812, substantial 19th century interior remodeling under various presidents, the 1948 total and complete gut remodeling, plus many little changes under the various presidents, there's not a whole lot that can be called original.

In the UK, their palaces, castles, grand homes, historic buildings are very highly regarded and protected as belonging to all. It is appalling that this happened.

Nonsense, you wretched little ingrate. We are the country that invented the steam engine, penicillin, all the things that make life comfortable and worth living. We not only abolished slavery many decades before the US, we went to great expense to use the Royal Navy to stamp out the slave trade.
