This isn't just a few families.

This isn't just the federal government we are headed to the great depression. International trips for anyone for soccer right now is absurdly ridiculous.

What about the week long early December trip to Phoenix for MLSNext I and II teams??!

Just for the kid alone—it’s easily a few thousand dollars.

The reason DC soccer sells this trip is simple: because there are people who will buy it.

We saw the pay scale at DC Soccer. Coaches getting paid is not what causes the high fees.

It's the cycle of soccer, and this is being offered at all the clubs, not just DC Soccer. If you can't afford it this year, I have an important life lesson for you: No is a complete sentence. No one is forcing your child to attend, you can say no if your family is stressed about money right now.

“Elite” soccer clubs prey on delusional parents. Your kid isn’t good enough to travel outside of the DMV. If they were you wouldn’t be paying for “elite” soccer.

Why parents fall for this private equity driven youth sports complex scam is beyond me.

just let your kid play rec soccer and then for his school team.

stop paying for this stuff.

say no to Richmond, too.

they cannot force you to pay for this.

And you think THIS is a good time to suggest an international soccer trip for tweens?

We’re tapping into savings just to keep our kids on enrolled on the team and covering stupid drives to Richmond.

And you turn up the crank and add one more thing we can disappoint our kids over not being able to do??? Because this is needed some how? And this is a good time?

How oblivious can you be?

This is cruel.

Don't you just say "no" and keep moving?

Sounds like you should rethink travel soccer or any other sports for your kids if you can't financially afford it.

OP does not have the ability to say no to their kids. Instead of a perfectly rational explanation to their kids that either: a) an international trip inside warranted for their skill level or b) an international trip is not possible given the families current financial circumstances (which a preteen should understand with a politics and current affairs discussion), they blamed DCSC.

We all got 99 problems but an international soccer trip ain’t one. If they were smart, they would dig into their savings and head over to Barnes and Noble and pick up Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink or anything that will help them learn how to have difficult internal and external conversations.

I get it. It’s a stressful time financially right now and a club announced a trip and now you feel like even more of a failure for disappointing your kid. It’s one thing to say no to a trip that you can afford, it’s another when you have to say no because you can’t. Privileged or not, that stinks.

I don’t think clubs should be taking international trips period. There’s no reason a bunch of kids playing travel need to pay to play internationally. There are plenty of trainers and select teams who organize these trips that families can seek out if they want to go.
