The Quince Orchard community is very nice and compliant. They seem to be taking this incident well.

There was a lot more noise and complaints coming from Magruder when they had serious building issues last year.

This. Things happen and people have to deal with the situation in the moment the best way possible. Does the timing suck, sure. Does it cause inconvenience, sure. But it's not like anyone planned for this to happened yesterday.

No one complained. That was just a factual account. Of course we’re glad no one slipped and fell, but this was not a particularly perilous situation. The school didn’t have to close because of life threatening conditions; it had to close because of the liability of flooded floors and the need to shut off the water.

It’s gross for sure, and created a slip-and-fall hazard, but how would it have killed anyone? The ceiling pieces that collapsed are those lightweight individual tiles that just lay on a framework. You know, the kind that get askew sometimes? They’re too flimsy to hold water.

That does stink but I understand why that happened. It would be great if we could count on kids to efficiently and quickly navigate the halls to get their stuff but simply being realistic, that wont happen.

Speaking of needing a toilet…the problem with evacuating everyone in the main building and sending them to the stadium was that kids had planned to use the bathroom during lunch (when the pipe burst), and once they had been moved to the stadium, they only had access to the very limited restrooms there, one of which had a clogged toilet.

My dd was in a portable, working with a teacher, when it happened. The kids in the portables weren’t evacuated; they had to stay put, also with no bathroom access. One kid had to go so desperately that they eventually ran off without permission. I hope they went to the library across the street.

It was terrible timing for the pipe to burst, with all the new restrictions on bathroom access.
