That does not seem like enough merit to lure away a candidate that strong from a higher ranked school.

Right? I do wonder what their yield rate is on these? Then, for strong but lower stats kids without merit (like what my kids would be, I'm sure), what is the yield...as I presume many of these kids would need some merit to make pitt oos work?

I mean I guess if they are overenrolled, Pitt has figured out the formula but it seems like not enough for a kid whose safety is Pitt!

DP. I’m not sure their model is to lure away from a higher-ranked school; I think it’s to be in the mix if the higher-ranked schools don’t pan out.

Pitt gets more popular every year, and the merit awards decrease.

+1 Mass-merit is used to lure by the less popular schools.

Agree. Our Pitt tour experience was great, but the $15k merit doesn’t make it more affordable than UVA in state.

How long generally after submission do kids hear if they've been accepted or not?

What's her major? Congrats!

Pitt is pricey. When my DC was there, they raised tuition on out of state kids but not on in state kids. Very turned off.

DD received an email telling her to check the portal.

Are kids receiving emails or just finding the update in their portal? I think my DD may be on the fence as far as getting merit. She is awful at checking her portal unless I prompt her.

Pitt used to be known for more generous merit, but about 4 or 5 years ago moved away from that toward providing more need based aid. Merit awards got smaller and less widespread...now $15-$20k is pretty good and most kids IME get less than that, if anything at all.

15k seems to be to the max for Dietrich. 20k for Swanson.
