I have seen many Visi posts, but do not feel like I have enough to go on about the workload and rigor. Can anyone provide an estimate of how much homework there is a night and if the academics are extremely challenging? My daughter would probably not do that many APs, if any.

Thanks!

LOL there is no "rigor".

It is not possible given the religious component.

How would the religious impact the rigor? Are you a bigot? There are plenty of rigorous religious schools in the area.

I think the PP was getting at the fact that religion class is required, and therefore that lowers the students' overall course load rigor. We heard that refrain a lot when DD was at an independent religious school. Some years the required religion course was indeed an easier class, but she/we appreciated that because she was taking all honors and AP level classes. Other years, it was more of a philosophy class with a lot of writing and analysis etc.

I wouldn't say all that the homework is busy work - maybe some the first year to get used to scheduling your time, but the work my DD has to do seems pretty sophisticated, but her classes are engaging and she seems interested rather than pressured by the homework

My child plays several sports at Visi and manages well, as do her friends. While there is nightly homework, practices are right after school, so she gets home at a reasonable time except on game days. She also takes advantage of her free periods during the day. Honestly, it is fine and seems normal.

Thanks

From my kids' friends who attend/attended Visi -- work is high volume but not high difficulty.

This is true, especially freshman year.

I actually agree with this.

Gonzaga admissions says they will do this for their very advanced math students and let them do dual enrollment with Georgetown if needed but not sure about Visi.

Don't know the answer to the question, but will share Visi is somewhat known for being pretty strict on which level math students test into. Definitely know kids who have had to repeat the math they took in 8th because Visi didn't feel like they had a strong enough grasp of the material (this includes kids in the most advanced math level their 8th grade offered).

Regarding schools accommodating her advanced trajectory--I would look at the actual courses offered and ask each school what the solution is if she exceeds the math offered. Most privates won't have past Multi/Diff Eq/Linear Algebra, but they may have some interesting math electives. Some may have advanced Stats ( at our school some seniors take who have exhaused all the other advanced math courses). Our school will also let students take a dual enrollment math course if school doesn't offer it.
