Top Private School in our area (K-12), went all 13 yrs. Relatively weak student for our school’s standards with a LD and Inattentive ADHD, 3.02/4.0, never got past algebra 2 but did take AP Gov and Honors French. Very weak Math and Science student in general but decent writer. 27 ACT and 1200 SAT, never a varsity athlete but played sports every year, lots of church involvement and a member of the school’s honor society for service work.

She did really well in admissions - got in University of Tennessee, Auburn, Ole Miss, Alabama, Wofford, College of Charleston and Deferred admission at Clemson. She ended up at her top choice and has been very happy, and with better grades then HS and a liberal arts major.

Was curious if this was a typical acceptance return? Asking because she had similar results to her friends with slighty higher grades and scores. I have a junior with similar stats right now so curious if this was a typical experience

Auburn is very difficult from out of state. Auburn is all about test scores and GPA so I'd say that admit is surprising. Lots of kids from the top private schools in our area don't get into Auburn.

Auburn and Tennessee are very hard to get into from out of state. Alabama is rejecting a lot of kids this cycle that would have gotten admitted in the past. Clemson not surprised at the deferral. I'd say Clemson and Auburn are on par with each other.

Please, these are not hard to get into...

Who are you to call so many students mediocre? You have no idea what these students are like, only that they aren’t AP students in math and science. These are the majority of students in American colleges. As adults the only ones who will talk about what college people went to will be the loud insecure adults. Stop being rude.

It doesn’t matter, her tests and grades are high enough to get into the schools.

Her stats show a reliable B student who would do well in college. Schools don’t expect AP science and math unless the student’s major is heavily reliant on science and math .

University of Alabama requires a 2.0 GPA with SAT 900. Same with most of those schools. Someone with her stats is definitely ready for college.

Ole Miss has a 98% acceptance rate.

The bolded is what the bottom 1/3 of the private school get accepted to, and the Clemson-community college start program, down to the very bottom of the class who have 3.2 weighted/1100 range SAT. 1380 is the median at ours.
No offense but those are average schools for an average-overall kid who is understandably below average at a good private high school. Nothing remarkable there.

OK, which of your DC’s schoolmates that you hate goes to Skidmore? Only reason for this gratuitous elbow off the top rope. Also, this kid would not get into Skidmore BTW, even if TO.

Anonymous wrote:She's a pointy kid. I am a parent, so my data here is old but in public HS, I also did not get past Algebra 2, only took Bio and Chem but did both French & German and did extremely well in English and History.
I got into a top UK college and did well.

I don't think you know what pointy means. This student is NOT pointy. At all.
OP, your DD had the outcomes I would expect. Kudos to you and the school for pointing her in the direction where she could be successful!

What are you talking about? How did Skidmore enter this conversation?

Kids with worse grades and scores than your DD have gotten into all of these schools in the past six years from our NJ public school. So I don’t think your results were out of the ordinary.

These are all pretty common admits from mediocre students at our large public.

OP, keep in mind that high school GPA depends heavily on the specific high school. There is no one-size-fits-all answer for college admission results even among private high schools.

I also agree with a PP that your use of the abbreviation "PS" in the title was confusing.
