Some kids do take classes in the 5 colleges but many don’t because Amherst plainly has the best classes of the 5. But I often got specialty hard to find books from the other libraries and did take one very specialized seminar at mt H.

I don't see how that can be true when it has a small percent of courses compared to Umass and has no graduate coursework. Sounds like a copout.

Just a different kind of student. Williams is isolated, limited in opportunities, and elitist. Amherst is nothing like williams in those regards. Amherst is competing with the lower ivies.

OP - your "question" sounds disingenuous. It sounds more like you just want to bash the school. Campus is 1000 acres and includes wildlife sanctuary and trails. It even has 2 museums and is quite nice. Great academics and nice kids overall. Town is not very large but a good number of restaurants for students being that UMass is also there. Lots of shopping in nearby towns such as Trader Joes, Dicks Sporting, Urban Outfitters, lots of farmers markets, etc. The school's isn't for everyone but it's a bit weird and unseemly to make a post just to completely insult a particular school. Perhaps there is an ulterior motive or an axe to grind.

That's what I love about schools like Amherst (even though I'm not actually a huge Amherst fan). It is the ultimate case of IYKYK. Keep out the ignorant riffraff like the OP. I don't want my kid going to school with people like that anyway.

I know this makes me sound like a snob. I don't care. A big part of choosing a school is choosing a culture and the people who will be your lifelong friends. I am fully supportive of schools having diversity (within reason - not a huge DEI fan) of race, gender, religion, geographic background, and politics, as long as those people are open to listening respectfully to others and exercising critical thinking skills. Those who can't be like that, stay away.
