This is awful. What school? Did you talk to the parents?


We talked with DS about it, and he handled himself well. We are not going to discuss this with the hosts, but we will, however, steer clear of future parties hosted by this family.

Homecoming is different than the after-parties. My ds has gone the last couple of years and had fun. There may have been after-parties, but he wasn’t invited to any. He and his friends met up for pizza before the dance and were picked up right afterwards and went home. He’s generally an introvert but enjoyed the dance and was glad he went.

DS’s high school doesn’t include freshmen in the homecoming festivities. They have a fun off- campus activity for them planned instead with no pre and post events ( they go right from school and parents have to pick them up from the school) .
At the beginning, I thought it was odd, but looking back, it totally makes sense now!

Yes it really is a circus. The parking lot becomes a parade of those party buses. My daughter steers clear of that crowd and so do I. We're a full pay HNW family, but we don't do country clubs...that might be why.

Op back- the co-ed school after party my dc attended sounded out of control with heavy drinking and at least weed available. Parents stayed out of sight. The all girl school after party was smaller and monitored by parents. Limited drinking with kids sharing a few seltzers.

Is this how it tends to do? Coed has more students so the parties get wilder or just depends on the family hosting?

One of the all girls schools does not allow buses to pull up anymore and I think it is a good idea. It is hurtful to kids not on the buses to see all of these kids coming in together. Yes my kid was and is on the buses and pre party but I think it is better to be more discreet.

OP, yes, we hosted DC's freshman class after party a couple of years ago. The biggest problem was kids from outside of the school/ grade that tried to crash. We even had a few juniors at the school try to come in, which I couldn't believe. You really have to watch it and keep an eye on things. DH and I were very present. We also shut it down at 12:30.

Yup. Parents want to control the narrative of who is invited and whatnot. GOP parents tend to take these roles which is funny - so much for law and order....


This is a political issue? You got me on that one. We're a GOP family and both of our kids did not go to any after parties in Freshman year.
