Attorney and I work from home FT and keep them on my wall in my office. Dh insists because we live in a smaller waspy town in the south where it is remarkable how underachieving all the rich wives are. The wealthiest people in town are all doctors and “business” guys, which seems to correlate to wives woth communications degrees from directional colleges. It’s a novelty I have a job, let alone an exceptionally successful career where I made $2m last year. Dh is super proud, and wants our son to have little reminders in the house, so the diploma stays up.

(FWIW I attended a T20 undergrad and a ‘good’ grad school, but I don’t know where my diplomas are and would not dream of mounting them on a wall. I did not attend any commencement ceremonies and paid my way through everything.)

What do you think of people who think of these things?

Why?

I like reading where my doctor or coworker went to school. It doesn’t bother me. Mine aren’t up, but I’m proud of my accomplishments. Maybe I should hang mine. I love education and am happy that others value it, too.

I have my diplomas up in my office at work because I have nowhere else to put them and wouldn't know what to do with them otherwise (fed gov attorney).

It depends really.

In a business office/setting I think they are appropriate but in a private home I can see why some would think it looked pompous.

This. Certain professions and environments a diploma is not only OK to display, it SHOULD be displayed, such as lawyers, doctors, etc.

I’m always a bit surprised at things that others have opinions on and choose to judge others for. I do not display my diplomas but it’s not from any deep thoughts about it. It’s never crossed my mind to have an opinion when I’ve been in offices with framed diplomas.

DH and I just found all our diplomas as we were cleaning out the basement and DS liked looking at them. Then we both wondered what to do with them. I hate storing things just to store them but getting rid of them seemed so senseless too.

We store ours in our filing cabinet with our passports and tax stuff.
DH and I have to show mine to a credentialing committee anytime we look for a new job.

My sister bought my kid an expensive university-logoed diploma frame for high school graduation. The kind she always wanted. It will probably get used.
