Be quietly flattered.

Exactly. Hilarious the people were trying to say this isn’t weird when a half dozen people reached out to her within two hours of the birth to tell her about it. That’s proof. It’s extremely uncommon and odd. There’s precisely zero chance in hell I would ever name my son the same name as my college boyfriend. That’s all you need to know.

Sure, sure. There were a lot of Tragedeighs in that generation.

My family has a tradition of giving kids their grandparents names as middle names going back several generations.

I’ve got two kids both of whom we have one of their grandparent names as middle names.

One of those names is also the name of one of my DH’s exs. We knew that, but we decided to continue the family tradition anyway.

Oh, the craziness that ensued. She literally called DHto ask him if our daughter’s name was a sign he still loved her!

Don’t assume everything is about you.

I kind of love this. What is the name?

I’ll just say it was a name that was more common in the late 80s and deserved a revival, and that it wasn’t even a living cat- it was her childhood cat that she’d told stories about. Roommate was a random Craigslist find who became a dear friend and she thought it was hilarious that I had carried her cat’s name with her all those years. DD loves cats and her name’s origin story.

We do not share this story beyond the 3 of us. Don’t tell DH.

She probably doesn't know it's his ex's name.

I made friends with a coworker. I left that job and we lost contact. She emailed me out of the blue a decade later. I had named one of my DDs her name. I loved the name and had nothing but positive associations with it, so even though I didn’t name my DD in honor of my coworker, coworker should be flattered. In an odd coincidence, this same former coworker and I had each had girl-girl twins. She named one of her DDs the same name I had used as a middle name for my DD who had this coworker’s first name. If you could follow that, kudos!

Everything is not all about you. 🙄

His wife probably picked the name. Does she even know you?

Don’t overthink it. Guys are also stupid, and don’t have the same attachment to symbolism that we do.

+1 my DH wanted to name our daughter after a Catholic Saint he liked. It was the SAME name as his high school girlfriend, so I said no. Admittedly it’s a common name, but he clearly had not thought about hat connection when I brought up my objection. He also didn’t want the name anymore

Yes, do not overthink it.
