Have genetic screening, father as well, and decide what your intention is if you both carry something heritable.

I was shocked or surprised given how many women I see online having children at 45+ in recent years. These being healthy children as well.



My doctor had this talk with me when I was 30.

Women having babies at 45+ are overwhelmingly using donor egg. If you’re 39 and want children, you literally cannot wait any longer. I had both my kids after 40 - it was really hard and I spent years dealing with infertility and figuring out what I needed to do to be able to conceive.

We really need to have a better sense of our fertility. Pretending like we can have it all and conceive with ease as we approach 40 is unrealistic.

How did it come up? Are you planning to have a baby and this was part of the discussion? If so, it seems like a completely reasonable thing for the doctor to bring up at your appointment. I’m surprised that you were shocked by what she said.
